Interested in starting your own grocery store? Itching to enter an electric shopping cart race? Dying to build a killer robot in your backyard out of used refrigerator parts and meat saws? If so, check out the equipment auction from the Piggly Wiggly at 1739 Maybank Hwy. Wednesday morning.

Restaurants often buy used equipment from commercial kitchens. Cork Bistro in Park Circle, for instance, purchased a walk-in refrigerator from the old Gaillard Auditorium at a government auction in 2012. So if you're bidding for culinary equipment like the panini grills, sausage stuffer, pressure fryers, or 800-pound ice flaker, expect competition. But if you're in it for the three-tier cheese island, hurricane protector door panels, or 672-foot Madix gondola shelving ... well, maybe you'll have a shot.

The auction is a complete liquidation of the James Island grocery store. Piggly Wiggly Carolina announced in September that it would sell 28 stores to Bi-Lo and Harris Teeter, closing many of its South Carolina locations in the process.

The auction will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. You can participate either online or in person at the store.
