848 Miles

When: Sept. 3-25 2010

Peeps. They’re gooey. They’re sugary. And you can get them during any major holiday. And I can only eat one before I get nauseous, but I love ‘em anyway. So I might be tempted to buy Ryan Cronin’s “This One Goes Out to All My Peeps,” a 48” by 48” painting in honor of the little guys that will be featured in his show at SCOOP Studios. 848 Miles marks the New York artist’s return to Charleston and will be part of Gallery Row’s First Fridays on Broad. Cronin uses bright colors of Rust-Oleum paint to make his social commentary. Besides the aforementioned painting, you can check out his three-foot-tall Peep bunny sculptures, in classic yellow, of course. “When someone encounters one of my pieces, I want them to experience a new perception or sudden insight and, above all, to enjoy themselves in the process,” Cronin says in his artist statement. “I hope the encounter will change their day, maybe give them something to think about or remark upon later.” —Susan Cohen
