Ballpark Festival of Beers

When: Sat., Aug. 17, 6-9 p.m. 2013

The Joe will overflow with suds this weekend. More than 100 beers will be poured, including lagers, ales, stouts, pilsners, and specialty brews. Geechee Island, Roti Rolls, Tokyo Crepes, and Dulce Sweet Tea and Treats will be selling plenty of beer-friendly fare to soak up some of the alcohol, and a tournament promises to challenge your cornhole skills. “The last four teams in the cornhole tournament will compete in the tentacle toss,” says Melissa Azevedo, director of special events. “Those four teams will be given a box of squid.” Contestants will throw the squid through the giant cornhole, and winners will be gifted with a chartered fishing trip from Charleston-Mt. Pleasant Inshore Charters, LLC. Live music will fill the park with tunes from Blue Plantation Band and Weigh Station. And remember to drink responsibly — Green Taxi and Co-Pilot Designated Drivers will be on site, and designated driver wristbands will be for sale at the stadium box office for $15. The event is rain or shine and strictly 21 and over.
