When those of us here at the City Paper caught wind of an American Idol spoiler claiming that Charleston's own Elise Testone had made the contest's Top 12 women, we were overjoyed. However, since spoiler sites are often completely and utterly full of caca, we had no way of knowing this bit of good news was true. But on Feb. 22, we found out that, yes indeedy, the site in question was correct: Testone was one of the final 24 Idol contestants. And the song that put her there was James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World." Once Elise was done, Randy Jackson proclaimed that she was one of the season's best singers — and rightfully so. We've long known that Testone has the powerful pipes and a serious work ethic. Here's hoping that Elise's American Idol journey lasts until May — and beyond.
