When most folks think of Club Habana, they think of cigars. It’s just about the only place you can sit in climate-controlled comfort these days and simultaneously enjoy a stogie and a drink (and with their high-tech air filtering system, it’s really not smoky either). What most don’t realize is that Club Habana’s cocktail savvy goes way beyond the average bar. From Gimlets to Side Cars, the crew on Meeting Street is well-versed in the pre-Prohibition drinks that started the mixed spirit phenomenon. The bar infuses their own simple syrups, and keeps fresh fruit on hand. If you order a screwdriver, they’ll be squeezing an orange. But get a little more inventive — operating partner Justin Valakis spent years tracking down original recipes, so take advantage of their knowledge and order a drink with some real history.
