We weren’t surprised when the Charleston Ballet Theatre imploded earlier this year, but we have been a bit surprised to watch the success story that is a little company called DanceFX. They started as an offshoot of an Athens, Ga., company with a small studio space on East Bay Street in 2008. Slowly they added more dancers and more classes, and in 2011, they moved to a larger space near Hampton Park on Rutledge Avenue. Now they offer classes in everything from ballet to hip-hop to jazz to tap, and even something called Bad Girls Club (“Think Fight Club with lipstick,” they say.) And their Charleston Dance Company is showing off their moves with original shows around town. We’re looking forward to what DanceFX, and the rest of the local dance community, has to offer in the coming years.
