The next time you see Awendaw Green's name on a festival or concert, get there. Backed and founded by Eddie White, this loose conglomeration of volunteers is determined to harbor Charleston's music scene and give the little guy a stage up in the woods north of Mt. Pleasant. You can't beat the deal at Wednesday's Barn Jams (four bands, donations only), but for the real shebang, the annual festival is the granddaddy. Evolving from Rocktoberfest to simply the Awendaw Green Music Festival in December, the two-day affair featured four stages, constantly revolving through Charleston's best and promising acts, from Gaslight Street to Slow Runner to the Freeloaders. The small but appreciative crowd didn't belie the talent on many of the stages. If you're still bitching about how Charleston's music scene sucks, you clearly weren't there.
