More than 17 years after Hootie and the Blowfish made a splash on the pop/rock scene, there's still no shortage of Hootie fanatics in the Lowcountry. Lead singer Darius Rucker's popularity grew surprisingly strong over the last five years as he veered away from rock and reinvented himself as a country crooner. When Rucker and his backing band performed at the North Charleston Coliseum in November, they drew a nearly sold-out crowd to his first-ever headlining show at the Coliseum. Many in attendance were there in 1995 when Hootie played a two-night stint during their heyday (they filmed the video for the song "Time" from Cracked Rear View during one of the shows). This Rucker concert turned out to be one of the biggest homecoming events of the year.
