When Ben Folds invited a loudmouth from the audience to come up onstage and sing for him during the reunited Five’s September show at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, many of us in the seats were squinting our eyes and wondering, “Why do I recognize that guy?” Well, it turns out the world-class showboater who whipped out some high-kicking dance moves on the classic 1995 song “Philosophy” was Lewis Dodson, owner of the Drop In Gourmet Deli & Bar and 2010 winner of the City Paper’s Hottest Bartender contest. We’ll always remember the advice he gave in the aisle after the show: “You’ve got to make up with showmanship for what you lack in talent.”
