It's been five years since Boone Hall opened its big Boone Hall grocery store and café in a tall, barn-like structure across from their strawberry fields on Highway 17. The place offers a nice selection of local produce, seafood, and specialty items as well as a tidy gift shop and order-at-the-counter café. The sandwiches, soups, salads, and barbecue are great, but their secret weapon is their "home-churned" ice cream — especially the velvety-sweet strawberry ice cream when the fruit is in high season. Try a big double scoop ($3.49) solo or in a waffle cone. Worth the trip to north Mt. P for sure.
