It only took craft brewer Ed Westbrook a few years to graduate from making five-gallon batches of homebrew to overseeing the construction of a full-sized brewery of his own. Located in Mt. Pleasant just off of Long Point Road, the Westbrook Brewing Co. is an 18,000 square-foot, two-story building with a full-sized brewing area. They avoid making generic styles and aim for producing more exotic ales and lagers - some of which are pretty wild hybrids. They officially launched in October, offering three year-round varieties - a refreshing White Thai, a malty Belgian Pale Ale, a hoppy IPA, and a series of seasonals and "special collection" brews. The new kid turned out to be a serious contender.
