Best Place On James Island To Slip Into A Food Coma

Workmen’s Cafe

Staff Pick

A quiet low-key restaurant called Workmen’s Cafe sits on the corner of Grimball and Riverland roads. As a creature of habit, I normally visit one or two Fridays a month. It’s not health food and my normal order usually consists of something like fried pork chops, red rice, butter beans, mac and cheese, and a large tea from owner Angie Bellinger. In all the years I’ve gone there, I’ve never left disappointed. —Kevin Young
