Hank’s combines old Charleston style with the bold flavors of contemporary sea-to-table dining. Waiters in white jackets and black ties serve historic local dishes like she-crab soup, curried shrimp in a coconut- and banana-laced sauce, and Seafood a la Wando, a blend of shrimp, scallops, and fish in a rich sherry cream. The “Fried” section of the menu features five different selections of heaping Southern seafood platters, all served with fried sweet potatoes and classic coleslaw. Alongside such substantial, crowd-pleasing favorites, Chef Frank McMahon displays his serious fine-dining chops with up-to-date preparations of local fish, like grilled swordfish with fried okra and sauteed spinach in a sweet corn, leek, and ham hock bisque. If you want to really impress, Hank’s seafood tower or seafood castle — gleaming silver ice-filled pans bearing chilled shrimp, oysters, mussels, lobster, and stone crab claws — is sure to do the trick. guy says... Terrific! Everything was fresh, well prepared and well presented. My meal consisted of Carolina Cup oysters on the half shell, stone crab claws, peel and eat shrimp, mussels in tomato/basil/garlic broth and the entre' special of the night, soft-shell crabs. Others at the table enjoyed ceviche, Belgian endive/arugula/blue-cheese/beet salad, baked grouper, pan seared sea scallops, curried shrimp. Attentive wait staff was very responsive to every request. A thoroughly good time was had by all; including a six year old who loved her popcorn shrimp. However, I was dismayed by the lack of fish varieties on the menu. Nothing but sure bets: salmon, tuna, grouper. How tiresome. I can get those in every respectable seafood restaurant in USA. ★★★★★

The raw bar shucks fresh oysters and stocks the seafood towers with mussels, clams, and shrimp while the kitchen sends out the fresh catch done right. Hank's is an old-school seafood house with a modern mentality. Chef Frank McMahon's been working with seafood his entire career, and his expertise shines through.
