Last August, we needed a storage unit to help transition during a move. We checked out four different places along Folly Road, the oldest of which was clearly James Island Storage. It was also the most affordable. When they tell you you're responsible for your own lock and if there's a break-in, they're serious. This place isn't heavily guarded or reinforced with razor wire, but the caretakers are super friendly and do keep a close eye on their video cameras. It's not the place we'd store the Hope Diamond, but boxes of old car parts, bicycles, and framed posters of Pink Floyd and the 1993 Tar Heels? They're perfectly safe and sound here. The best thing is, there's no corporate BS or monthly contract — this is a locally run operation, the kind we like to support.
