So, who thought macaroons were those chewy coconut things you find in an Entenmann's box at the Pig? We did too. That is, until Macaroon Boutique showed up and opened our eyes to the wonderful world of French macaroons. They look a bit like cookie sandwiches on steroids, but the cookies are made with egg whites and sugar (among other flavorings and ingredients), giving them a wonderfully toothsome texture. They come in all kinds of colors and flavors at the Boutique, including pistachio, chocolate, and raspberry, or you can pick the large flavor-of-the-day macaroon. The filling is buttercream, and the resulting creation is a heavenly little thing that puts both coconut macaroons and Oreos to utter shame.
