With severe budget woes, the state legislature made the wise move to establish a Tax Realignment Commission, a group that wouldn't take any idea off the table. The opportunity was to find a creative way to restructure the state's tax system. What the group came back with was a proposal to tax groceries, medicine, and home utilities — and in an election year!
