Janie Askew

Exactly one year after taking the reins at Redux Contemporary Art Center, Janie Askew is stepping down as executive director and Stephanie Coakley is taking her place. Askew will be pursuing a master’s degree in occupational therapy. “It was a very difficult decision to give my resignation because I believe Redux to be imperative for the Charleston community and I have adored my time with the organization, but after much contemplation, my personal desire to aggressively pursue my own artistic vision and seek out a career path that works with the special needs population has become apparent,” Askew said in the official release.

Coakley, who takes her post Oct. 1, has served as the director of development for the organization since January. Her responsibilities have included balancing the budget, finding funding, and increasing community outreach. Pre-Redux, she worked as the director of education and community partnerships at the Tucson Museum of Art for seven years. She also worked at the Gibbes between 2000 and 2004.
