In the spirit of the outdoor music festivals and weekly Barn Jam events at Awendaw Green, organic berry farm Blue Pearl Farms has kicked off a monthly concert series of its own in McClellanville this summer.

The acoustic sessions — nicknamed the Blueberry Jams — take place every third Sunday of the month from 4-8 p.m. on the grounds of the farm at 9760 Randall Road. It’s a handsome setting on the edge of the Francis Marion National Forest. Blue Pearl specializes in naturally grown blueberries, muscadines, scuppernongs, and vegetable gardens.

Proprietor Robert Sollott admits he’s no professional promoter, but he loves live music, particularly by some of the songwriters in the Lowcountry. He started organizing Blueberry Jam events in June, with a tented stage, a food alley with local vendors, games, tours, arts and crafts, and family-friendly events.

This month’s concert is set for Sun. Aug. 21, with performances by folk-rocker Danielle Howle, blues combo Tony Talley and friends, and bluegrass artist Jason Shore. McClellanville’s Pinckney Street Kitchen will provided local shrimp specialties and barbecue. A blueberry toss and bake-off are scheduled as well.
