Already famous for their weekly Barn Jams, Awendaw Green is coming to downtown Charleston to host a monthly Listening Room Series at the Circular Congregational Church with Suncoast Promotions. The new shows are actually a continuation of concerts that Awendaw owner Eddie White used to set up with Suncoast’s Dan Henderson several years ago. They were intimate, small-capacity performances that aimed to bring the audience to the artists. White says they were well received.
“It resonated with both groups, and the musicians performance is always better when folks are actually paying attention and involved,” White says. “When we looked for a name for this series, we kept coming back to that fact: small audiences, incredibly intimate venues, and artists that create a memorable musical experience for everyone.”
White adds that the acoustics at the Circular Church are “the most beautiful” people will ever experience, and he thinks the artists will elevate their performances to match that moment.
The first show takes place on Fri. Aug. 31 and features Crowfield’s Tyler Mechem and Texas singer-songwriter Bonnie Bishop. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at etix.com or by calling (843) 343-4057. Visit Suncoast's website to learn more.
Future shows will feature Angel Snow (Sept. 22) and Shelby Lynne (Oct. 27).
