If you haven't yet gotten your music fest fix this year, fear not — Zac Brown has you covered. Last October, Brown and his band headlined the Southern Ground Music and Food Festival, which was well-received by music lovers and foodies alike. If you were silly enough to skip out on the first go-round, you missed Warren Haynes shredding it during the afternoon, the Zac Brown Band covering Ryan Adam’s “Sweet Carolina” and Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” as the sun was setting, and My Morning Jacket taking the stage after dark as Jim James performed in all of the glory of his pre-Circuital days.
With that said, the second annual fest (Oct. 20 and 21) is not to be missed. Once again, Jack Daniels and Landshark will sponsor the two-day show and you better believe you’ll be returning home with your share of shark-finned koozies. The performers should entice a wide variety of music fans, as this year’s lineup includes The Zac Brown Band, The Avett Brothers, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Michael Franti and Spearhead, The Wailers, The Charlie Daniels Band, Los Lonely Boys, Jerry Douglas, JJ & Mofro and more.
Rusty Hamlin, Southern Ground’s executive chef, will bring a personalized touch to his traditionally Southern fare, as bands will help curate the menu. Openers will have specific appetizers, while headlining acts will design their own entrees. Additionally, a la carte concessions will be available from Cookie, the Zac Brown Band’s mobile kitchen, featuring items made with Brown’s famous Southern Ground Grub Georgia Clay Spice Rub.
If hanging out with all the other dancing revelers is your jam, you can purchase two-day passes for $109 (general admission) or $139 (pit). If luxury is your preference, the VIP ticket option comes highly recommended. The customized front porch stage boxes are located within feet of the performers, and provide concertgoers with a more intimate experience. Chef Rusty will prepare a gourmet four-course meal, and complimentary beverages are included in the package.
