Jazz Artists of Charleston announces call for submissions

Charleston’s resident all-jazz-all-the-time music organization, Jazz Artists of Charleston, is currently accepting submissions from solo musicians and small ensembles (up to nine performers) for their 2013 season. Musicians from vocalists to pianists in all genres and subgenres of jazz are invited to apply “We want to be as inclusive as possible,” says the JAC’s Craig Budde. “Everyone deserves to be heard, and we treat every application the same.” In other words, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never played with local jazz heavyweights like Quentin Baxter or the JAC’s own Leah Suárez. “Every jazz artist is already part of the JAC whether they know it or not,” Budde says. This is just your chance to make it official.

Musicians who appear to be a good fit for the JAC’s 2013 performances will be invited to perform in one or more of the JAC’s scheduled 2013 performances, including JAC Week in April and the JAC Jazz Series during Piccolo Spoleto. Most successful applicants will receive letters of intent in early 2013. If you don’t hear from them, however, that doesn’t mean the process is over. The JAC sometimes adds additional performances mid-season based on opportunity or demand, which will increase its need for musicians.
To apply, you’ll have to submit a written application, which can be completed on the JAC website, and a few listening samples. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Dec. 3. See jazzartistsofcharleston.org for more.
