Year Round Girls Rock

Girls Rock, the music camp for girls and transgender youth, is trying to raise $5,000 through Indiegogo so they can help kids discover their inner rock starts year-round. The camp, which is aimed at youth ages eight to 16, takes campers from learning an instrument to forming a band to writing and performing an original song, all in one week. Girls Rock finished up their second summer camp this past July, and according to organizers, the campers asked for a encore. "We got letters from campers and parents saying they wanted camp to last forever, and that one week wasn't enough, that they wanted it to go year-round," says co-founder Gracie Aghanpour. "So in the fall of 2013 we plan to launch after-school programming, and the money will all go directly to making that happen." The Girls Rock team is already looking forward to spring of 2014 too, with a program that will target mostly teens. It's an all-or-nothing deal — if they don't raise $5,000, they don't get anything. The fundraising ends on Christmas Eve, so Girls Rock will have either an amazing Christmas, or a super sad one. We're hoping for the former.
