Vice President Joe Biden will be joined in Charleston today by Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx and Republican Gov. Nikki Haley as the veep stops at the port to discuss the importance of shipping in the U.S. economy. Biden will also stop at the Port of Savannah, a move not lost on former SPA chief Bernard Groseclose, who says the visit to Charleston's closest rival port is likely no coincidence given their competitive relationship with S.C. ports. The Beach Company's Kiawah River Plantation development is back in the news over permits its seeking to fill some wetlands and salt marsh areas to expand access roads to the rural Johns Island plot it owns and is trying to develop along the Kiawah River.

With the news late last week that the Oklahoma Supreme Court will hear another appeal in the ongoing Veronica case, the court let stand a stay that continues to delay the execution of an order calling for the girl's return to South Carolina. [Tulsa World]
