When: Sat., April 14, 7:30 p.m. 2012
What: The boys in black and gold are sinking their cleats back in at Blackbaud Stadium for the Charleston Battery’s first home game of the club’s 20th season, making them the first pro soccer club in America to reach this milestone. To mark the occasion, the Battery will be wearing the club’s original colors of black and white stripes as they take on the Richmond Kickers on Saturday. “We’ve also invited all of our old players back for an alumni reunion with a massive fireworks display following the match,” says Battery President Andrew Bell. The Battery looks to set the tone for the season with the first game in front of their loyal fans. “We have some tremendously knowledgeable soccer fans here in Charleston, and they expect us to play a certain way,” Bell says. “The Battery has managed to draw on the home support and use it as a motivational tool over the years.” The match against Richmond looks to be a fast-paced and exciting game as veteran players and brand-new additions get their kicks before the summer heat and humidity sets in. Along with all the soccer action, Blackbaud offers a kid-friendly Fun Zone and their usual array of concession-stand treats, now including Sticky Fingers, as well as a wide beer selection.
