There are two things that make us talk about Fast and French a year after leaving Charleston, and will make us come back again: Chocolate Croissants and French Press Coffee. Not too sweet, perfect taste!

Dear FOBofSC,
We here at G & M are deeply distressed and embarrassed over your recent account of your dining experience with us. We are not accustomed to failing a customer so absolutely as we did with you and your family. We are better than this! Can you give us another chance? Please contact us at fastandfrench@gmail.com to make arrangements to dine with us again; our TREAT, of course. Every year we strive to be a better Café than the year before. Your input assures us that we reach that goal.
Our Sincerest Apologies,
Management at G & M

My wife and I have had the opportunity to eat lunch at G&M perhaps 10 times. Every time we've been there we've loved it. Sometimes it is very crowded, other times it's just crowded. Elbow to elbow, everybody here is loving the food and the authentic atmosphere. I will continue to try to find an excuse to be on Broad Street around noon.

Haven't been in years. Went to G & M Friday, June 24, 2011, for dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday. Not crowded, just a few patrons, about 7 PM.
This rates as one of my worst Charleston dining experiences.
I ordered the double baguette with Roast beef and Mimolette, side of mayo.
Out of baquettes, no Mimolette, don't serve Mayo. OK, I order sourdough and Muenster instead.
When the meals arrive, my sandwiches were, well, laughable. I SINGLE slice of roast beef, a fair amount of hand sliced cheese, a couple leaves of lettuce, and a couple slices of tomato. It was if I was visiting a down-and-out friend who offered the best he could knowing it was the thought and effort that counted. I can accept that graciously...but not at a restaurant.
Difference...This IS a restaurant, the customer expects and is entilted to a fair, if not generous portion, to complete an order. These sad sandwiches should have come with an apology and an offer for another dinner on the house.
The other members of our party faired a little better. One received the wrong soup with her meal. Two ordered the chicken special. No one was sure how it was cooked, both complained it was bland and lacked flavor, thumbs down from both. It tasted to me as if it had been boiled. But there is more, a single breast was split between the two orders, so that the meals could arrive at the same time, as our waiter explained. Another portion would be "right out". It finally arrived after everyone had finished and couldn't wait to leave...had to get that to go.

Ingredients seem to be fresh, but WTF! Not remotely French, and not fast, service poor to fair, had to continue to request water, etc, etc. My son's grilled cheese was good though. I made myself something to eat when I got home.
I cannot recommend G & M to anyone, I am not that cruel. Used to be a fun place to get a decent meal.
