La Dolce Vita Social and Silent Auction

When: Sat., April 6, 6-8 p.m. 2013

The sundresses and flip flops that are released from their closets this time of year are all fine and dandy, but glamorous — most definitely not. This Saturday, break out your inner femme fatale or dashing bad boy for the La Dolce Vita social, which benefits the College of Charleston’s Italian Film Festival. In the spirit of Italian movie icons Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, the dress code is vintage glamour, with sparkles, suave skinny ties, and 1960s-style updos encouraged. Organizer and CofC Italian professor Giovanna Deluca recommends those in need of inspiration to look to Claudia Cardinale and Gina Lollobrigida. “And let’s not forget the star of La Dolce Vita Anita Ekberg. Even if she is a Swedish-American actress, she represents Italian vintage glamor 100 percent.” For the men, if Mastroianni doesn’t work, try Vittorio Gassman or Raf Vallone. The Halsey Institute will provide the perfect stylish backdrop for your sophisticated selves as you sip on prosecco and enjoy Italian antipasti, gnocchi alla Sorentina, gelati, and more. And because you can’t have la dolce vita without music, guests will be serenaded with Italian tunes from the 1950s and ’60s by pianist Micah McLaurin and Post and Courier arts writer and singer Adam Parker.
