Lowcountry Highrollers Night of the Living Roller Girls

When: Sat., Oct. 27, 4:30 p.m. 2012

If you love your Highrollers in uniform, wait till you see them in costume. This Saturday marks the final bout of the season for the Lowcountry’s resident badasses, and they’re celebrating with a Halloween-themed event that will include a costume contest for audience members and the chance to go a little wild with their own uniforms. “Even though we’re pretty serious about our uniforms now, we get to have a little fun with our outfits for this bout,” says Highroller Green-Eyed Sniper (known off the track as CP contributor Allyson Bird). What they’re most excited about, however, is the change in venue. They’ll take on River City’s Uncivil Warriors and Poe’s Punishers at Memminger Auditorium, instead of their usual home at the Citadel’s McAlister Field House. “Memminger will provide a setting for roller derby as it’s meant to be watched: up-close and right alongside the track, with skaters duking it out on a concrete floor,” says Bird. Like most everything about roller derby, it sounds painful ... and awesome.
