The MUSC Urban Farm is a 1/2 acre of living classroom in which staff, faculty, students, and the general community can learn about many varieties of vegetables, fruit, and herbs grown in South Carolina and the connection between health and food. Located on the corner of Bee and President streets inside the historic wall, the farm hosts workshops, seminars, volunteer workdays, and tours for local schools. Participants can take part in cooking and nutrition lessons and obtain direct experience in sustainable urban agriculture. Educational programs are also available for special groups like weight management patients, school children, and therapeutic service organizations. Harvested produce is shared among participants and volunteers, and MUSC chefs are incorporating some of the produce into food served in the MUSC cafeterias.
