Pet Fest

When: Sat., March 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sun., March 29, 12-4 p.m. 2009

If your ever-faithful pooch is hungry for some furry companionship, Pet Fest is the place to find that someone special. Since there were over 900 dogs at last year’s event, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission has decided to elongate Pet Fest into a two-day extravaganza. Local pet organizations will showcase their products, causes, and services during the event. The biggest news this year is that there will be dock diving demonstrations (a la SEWE’s hugely-popular event) for the very first time. There will also be a Lowcountry Dog Magazine cover model contest for the pooch who doesn’t like getting dirty, a dog food eating contest for the extra hungry owner (yes, owner), and lots of children’s activities. Even if you don’t have a pet, there will be adoptable animals on-site. Just don’t forget that pets must be leashed at all times! Oh, and even though it’s called “Pet Fest,” with the large number of canines walking the grounds, it might be best to leave your cat, boa constrictor, and parrot at home to avoid any unnecessary trauma. —Emma Hart
