Presidential Debate at Cinebarre

When: Wed., Oct. 3, 7 p.m. 2012

Let’s face it: almost all of us know who we’re voting for in November, which makes the upcoming presidential debate more of a recreational undertaking than a game-changing one. But there’s something about seeing your candidate dish it out (or, as the case may be, get served) on live television that just gets the adrenaline flowing, especially when you’re with a crowd. That’s why Cinebarre in Mt. Pleasant has decided to host a live viewing of Obama vs. Romney on their big screen. “We want to make this a fun event, a both-sides-of-the-aisle event,” says Cinebarre General Manager Kris Keisling. “Anybody and everybody is welcome.” There’s a chance you won’t be able to hear every word the way you might in the quiet of your living room, what with people gettin’ all excited, but hey — that’s a small price to pay for participatory democracy. “It does get a little spirited. It’s certainly not quiet,” Keisling says. “But when there’s a group, you feel like maybe you’re not alone in your thoughts. Other people agree or disagree with the same things you do. You feel like you’re part of something, as opposed to watching it at home on television.”
