Record Store Day

When: Sat., April 19 2014

There’s just something about listening to a record. Waiting in anticipation for the next track to start as a small buzz and a few crackles signal the transition, you feel like you’re listening to the band perform it live. It’s not glossy and overly finished; it’s raw and real. And a couple of local record stores want to celebrate the beauty that is vinyl (although you can still pick up CDs) for National Record Store Day. “In the spirit of music and celebration of art, our Record Store Day extravaganza gets bigger and bigger every year,” says Wray Newcombe, Monster Music and Movies manager. “The environment is going to be very warm and inviting and most of the store will be on sale.” What has become a festival of sorts, the all-day bash will include live music from Jordan Igoe, Dead 27s, the Dunder Chiefs, Guilt Ridden Troubadour, and Tyler Boone. And it wouldn’t be a party without food truck favorites like Autobanh, Cast Iron, King of Pops, and Lowcountry Creole. And the kids can keep busy with a jump castle and Easter egg hunt. Cat’s Music in Summerville will also be having their own party with music from Mt. Vulture, Cepheus, Nimblefox, Lizard on the Window, and Senam Palmer. Free food will be provided courtesy of Famulari’s Pizza, and the festivities get going at 12 p.m. And Loco Record Shop in North Charleston will be offering 30 percent off all LPs.
