Red Light Winter

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Sept. 9 2012

The Footlight Players are proving that community theater has an edgy side with Red Light Winter, part of their Late Night @ The Footlight series. If the “red light” in the title got you thinking of certain seedier goings-on, then you’re on the right track. The play details the relationship that two male friends develop with a young prostitute during a trip to Amsterdam, which turns out to be just as ill-advised as it sounds. The friends, Matt and Davis, are engaged in a kind of perpetual, toxic power struggle that leads Davis, the more aggressive of the two, to decide it’s his job to force an end to his friend’s three-year sexual drought. Hence the prostitute. Upon their return home to New York, the two men are left to deal with the unpleasant consequences of what happened in Amsterdam. Apparently, what happens in the Netherlands doesn’t stay in the Netherlands.
