The owner and the management of this establishment completely disrespected a large group of my friends when they went there yesterday to have some drink later in the evening. The managers said to them: Your 'kind' is disrupting Mount Pleasant and the only reason you are in this country is because my father fought in the war. This was one of many comments made to my friends (the group consisted of varying cultures of young people who just wanted to have a good time) before RUDELY kicking them out. Comments were made about gays being in allowed in the military and so forth. When I went there again to file a complaint, the owner told me to GET OUT NOW after finding out what my complaint was about. They threatened to call the COPS on me because I was inquiring about their rude and disrespectful behavior. I was not hostile and didnt come there to discuss anything or prove a point, I just wanted to talk to the manager. The male GM basically made me back out of there while continuing to threaten me and then verbally assualted me outside with random comments that completely were unneccesarry. This place is a dump in general and this just makes it intolerable. Please do not go eat there and give them your money because they obviously have no respect for people...who are all well educated and contributors to this economy in many great ways. Majority of them are either in the Air Force or work for the federal government...so how is it that WE DO NOT BELONG THERE??????

I must admit the bacon stuffed waffles with a side of bacon drew us in at first & are good and reasonably priced, enough to tempt us out for a second brunch visit. However, on this visit we found the Bloody Mary's weak, the ice water tasted like dishwater, and the fact that they are "trapping" the wild cats that patrol the area really weirds me out. (suprise?! you have animals prowling around a restaurant area where people toss food and trash??? wow, imagine that) We went for brunch & sat outside, only to hear this horrible meowing noise from under the deck being made by a large black cat that had been caught in a trap that the manager later said was "put out for the raccoons".... and altho the manager brought the poor distressed, frenzied & panting cat up from underneath the deck, they didnt release it, apparently b/c they hadnt gotten "the offical word" from whoever set the trap about what to do with whatever the trap caught! Um, just a thought...you put a trap out and dont have a plan regarding what to do with the animal you catch?? (At least our waitress brought some water out to it...who knows how long the cat had been in the trap?) As we were leaving, and walked over to see if the cat was okay, some guy comes barreling out of the door and said "Dont let that cat out.....unless youre taking it home with you." Sorry, but I'm letting this cat out of the bag....we wont be back. We will bemaking bacon stuffed waffles at home, but thanks for the idea, though!!!

I can't believe they would set a trap for raccoons - - raccoons live in the marsh and this particular restaurant is course located on the marsh/creek. They probably have a rodent problem too if all of these animals are hanging around. Rarely do I have seafood that is fresh or tastes any good at a restuarant. I've heard horror stories about food poisoning from AW Shucks. I prefer to cook it myself.

I enjoyed the Shem Pot with a freind and it was wonderful!! Food, service and atmosphere was great. BTW, a traditional wedge is served with maytag blue cheese, which could give the impression of being "spoiled" if you are not expecting it. It would be like saying your sole tasted like fish. lol
I am glad they use live traps. Many places just poison. Even state parks have to trap and relocate wild animals after they get a taste of free handouts. I'd have a much worse experience if a coon came to my table, so give them a break for protecting the public and their business.

Finally had friendly service. Food is always awesome! Service isn't always so friendly, but food is so great we keep coming back. The shrimp and grits and steak and cake are to die for. Service isn't very friendly, so we keep saying we aren't going back, but the food always lures us when we have family in town. We had a new server, Sandy, who made us feel extremely welcome and at home. Maybe they're becoming the old "at home" Shem Creek Bar and Grill again.

Me and my Dad's favorite Sunday brunch location. Nothing like sitting on the back deck looking out over the Creek with lip-smackingly good bloody mary to start your week out right. Reasonable prices & generous portions, I'm a big fan of their jambalaya and their collards are TO DIE FOR. Get there right at 11:30 when they open if you want a seat on the back deck because they do fill up quickly once they open.
