One guy or gal, alone on stage, trying to make strangers laugh. Those people have some balls. And though we’d never want to trade places with them, we’re still looking forward to this weekend’s Stand Up Competition rounds, especially since the jokes tend to get a little crazier (and of course, better) as the competition heats up. On Friday and Saturday, 10 comedians will offer their funniest six minutes, with audience members voting for their two favorites at the end of each night. “The competition has grown in the past couple of years,” says Theatre 99’s Greg Tavares, pointing out that there are two semi-final rounds to last year’s one, and that there are now six minutes per round to last year’s five. Only three comics per round will make it to the finals on Dec. 1 for one last chance at glory.
