There’ll be plenty of Irish-themed shows around town during the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations this weekend, especially at the various Irish taverns downtown and in the surrounding areas. Downtown, one of the stand-out events is an all-day session starting at noon at Tommy Condon’s. Local and visiting acoustic acts, fiddlers, pipers, and dancers will be on hand, as will Dublin-born vocalist and musician Steve Carroll and his veteran combo the Bograts, the venue’s long-running house band. As the singer, songwriter, and bodhran (Irish drum) player, Carroll will stand alongside singer/guitarist Teddy Prause (also of Fried Rainbow Trout) and guest fiddlers and guitarists by the front window at 9 p.m. They’ll lead the stout-soaked crowds through sets of traditional Celtic tunes, bawdy sing-alongs, and folk-rock favorites. It’s a Charleston tradition. Slainte!
