It may not have the raw power of Honey Boo Boo, but Storage Wars has had its fair share of only-on-reality-TV moments. Take the Pensacola winner (or loser?) who discovered ditched body parts in his hard-won storage unit on a recent episode. Now, the show’s star auctioneers Dan and Laura Dotson are flying to Charleston to help unlock the gems hidden behind the doors of UNITS Portable Storage on Johns Island. Storage auctions are a free-for-all dive into abandoned storage units in hopes of finding precious collectibles. “The set-up mimics the show with a preliminary five-minute scouting followed by bids for the unit’s contents. There will be 12-15 containers available for bidding,” says coordinator Daniel Jacobsohn. Just don’t quit your day job — storage auction experts warn that chances of striking it rich from container finds are slim. Instead, come for the excitement that accompanies any treasure hunt and to support UNITS Portable Storage’s charitable efforts (a portion of all auction proceeds will go to Goodwill). The event is free to watch, but if you’re looking to get in on the action, bring cash and a driver’s license. If you’re not the gambling type, you can kick back with some food from Roti Rolls or King of Pops and watch the bidding frenzy.
