Summerville’s Main Street is all about wholesome, small-town nostalgia, so it stands to reason that their annual tree lighting celebration feels like it came out of It’s a Wonderful Life. Carols and Christmas music by the Summerville High School choral group and band will get attendees in the holiday spirit before Mayor Bill Collins steps up to flip the magic switch. Once he does, you’ll be oohing and aahing over not only the town Christmas tree, but also the 15,000 lights that decorate the historic downtown. Afterward, stick around for the Summerville Snowball Drop, when a downpour of 1,000 ping pong balls will rain down from a fire truck ladder onto the unsuspecting crowd. Each ball will have a special deal from a local retailer that guests can redeem that night or later in the week. While we’d prefer real snowballs, we’re never one to turn down a deal.
