The Exact Center of the Universe

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Feb. 10 2013

If you ask us, The Exact Center of the Universe’s Vada Love Powell would get along beautifully with A Glass Menagerie’s Amanda Wingfield. Set in the South during the 1950s, The Exact Center of the Universe tells the story of Vada Love, who is in her late 60s when her son Apple marries a mysterious woman without her consent. Vada Love, shamed and affronted by Apple’s decision, must come to terms with both his indiscretion and society’s judgment. It’s a coming-of-age play, but not a traditional one, says executive director Pamela Galle. “Generally coming-of-age plays focus on younger characters finding themselves, but this play features Vada Love making a personal transition much later in her life ... This play is a great opportunity to get a taste of the ’50s in the South, and of the cultural foundation and roots that still influence who we are today.”
