Who better to perform the most beloved Russian ballet of all time than actual Russian ballerinas? This year, the Moscow Ballet marks their 20th anniversary performing the Great Russian Nutcracker, and they’re going big with world-renowned ballerina Olga Kifyak in the role of Masha (or, as most Americans know her, Clara). According to Doug Smoak of the Magnolia Dance Academy, whose students will be performing along with the Moscow Ballet dancers, this is the time to see her. “Olga has great technique and over time has just gotten better and better. She’s just peaking.” The Ballet is also premiering a top-secret new dance called the Dove of Peace, featuring two dancers each wearing one 10-foot-long wing and moving together to create a single white dove. And of course, audiences can always count on seeing favorites like the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Rat King, the Chinese Dance, and the Waltz of the Flowers. Anyone else getting nostalgic yet?
