The Red Party

When: Thu., Oct. 29, 7 p.m. 2009

The American College of the Building Arts is hosting a party on Thursday at one of the creepiest venues in town: the Old City Jail. With a history soaked in spooky scandal, the jail is the perfect spot for an event this time of year — even though the Red Party isn’t a Halloween party per se. “We wanted to do something that would stand out from the other Halloween costume parties,” says Director of Development Brittany Darwin. “To add to the mystery and intrigue of the night, attendees will dress in red and wear masks.” The blood-red theme goes beyond suggested attire, reaching into the decorations, an illuminated dance floor, and red-hued food catered by Carolina Catering — think red velvet cupcakes, pommes frites with red salt, lump crab gazpacho shooters, and red deviled eggs. Guests will enjoy an open bar, too, not to mention music from red-hot DJ Arthur Brouthers. A silent auction includes trip packages (Africa, Mexico, New York), an “eye rejuvenation package” from The Facial Surgery Center, gift certificates, and more. All proceeds from the event will help support the American College of the Building Arts, a nonprofit that educates and trains artisans in the traditional building arts. —Erica Jackson
