If you’ve been by the Halsey lately, you’ve seen the incredible text-and-image works of Lesley Dill’s Poetic Visions: From Shimmer to Sister Gertrude Morgan. Well, what mingles text and image better than poetry? In conjunction with the Dill exhibit, the Halsey and CofC are hosting a series of poetry readings in the gallery, and the first one will feature Richard Garcia, Kit Loney, Susan Finch Stevens, Katherine Williams, and S.C. Poet Laureate Marjory Wentworth. All the poets have won various prestigious awards both locally and nationally, and Garcia’s work has been featured in Ploughshares and Best American Poetry. After the reading, mingle with the wordsmiths and marvel at the artwork at a reception catered by WildFlour Pastry. Other upcoming readings will feature College of Charleston students and professors, and nationally acclaimed published poets such as Emily Rosko and Samuel Amadon.
