UNED!TED presents Out of the Rose

When: Thu., Feb. 21, 7 p.m. 2013

Annex Dance Company, one of the members of the Charleston Dance Alliance, is a huge proponent of collaboration between arts organizations. For their latest show, they’ve teamed up with actor Evan Perry and Laura Ball of the Charleston Library Society’s UNED!TED Series. Company founder Kristin Fieseler, who also teaches dance at CofC, wrote “Out of the Rose” in 2009, and she’d been looking for an opportunity to perform it locally. Fieseler co-wrote the piece with Steve Myers, a poet and scholar of W.B. Yeats. They both agreed that Yeats’ work was the perfect pairing to dance, and they worked together to interpret his words through movement. “As a choreographer, there’s something to be said about two artistic eyes who are embedded in two different art forms coming together,” Fieseler says. “It was nice to sit down with a poet and talk about the poetry and hear what his interpretation of the works were and see the words come along. He was very much a part of the order in which the poem progressed.”
