When: Sat., March 2, 7 p.m. 2013
Designer Carmen Marc Valvo may be best known for his red carpet-ready designs, which have hugged the bodies of iconic women from Beyoncé to Katie Couric, but he’s also a proud survivor of colon cancer. To kick off Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Valvo is teaming up with the University of South Carolina’s Center for Colon Cancer Research for their annual gala. This black tie event will feature a New York-style runway show with Valvo’s Spring 2013 designs, which will be readily available in stores just a couple weeks after the event. Valvo’s involvement with the gala has been a tradition for several years, says TK PR’s Taryn Scher. “He is a big proponent of colon cancer research.” Valvo’s even published a book to generate proceeds for the cause called Dressed to Perfection. The Colon Cancer Gala has been held in several cities across the Carolinas, and organizers are putting together an evening as glamorous as the Carmen Marc Valvo dresses on the runway, with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, a silent auction, live music, and dancing.
