Small Business Saturday is the kinder, gentler version of Black Friday, with shoppers encouraged to patronize local businesses instead of the behemoth establishments where at least one person seems to get trampled every year. This holiday season, Candy Shop Vintage and Mirabelle Bakery are celebrating with a joint trunk show and baked goods tasting. You’ll be able to browse vintage jewelry and select vintage accessories from the sweetly-named shop, while sampling Mirabelle’s cupcakes, cakes, and homemade candy. Before your eyes glaze over from eating so many sugary treats, make sure you take part in the raffle — your $5 ticket will benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane relief efforts. Prizes will include Candy Shop Vintage jewelry and a small catering package from Mirabelle Bakery. “This event is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season,” says Deirdre Zahl, owner of Candy Shop Vintage. “Come and support two local Charleston businesses and get a head start on your holiday shopping.” It’s a lot better than getting trampled.
