Books + Poetry, Fall Arts Picks, Family + Kids

When: Sat., Nov. 9, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. 2013

If you see hordes of jazzed-up teens lined up for autographs on Upper King this November, don’t worry. You’re not at a Justin Bieber concert. You’re probably walking by YALLFest, the three-year-old festival devoted to all things Young Adult lit. Blue Bicycle Books’ Jonathan Sanchez, who founded the fest with authors Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia, has steadily grown the fest year after year and this time they’re bringing in 50 authors, most of whom have New York Times bestsellers under their belts. Annual favorites like Pseudonymous Bosch (The Secret Series), Ellen Hopkins (Crank, Burned, Glass), and Melissa De La Cruz (The Blue Bloods series) will be joined by authors like Rachel Cohn (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), Nancy Holder (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), David Levithan (Two Boys Kissing), and many more. If you are, or are planning to be, a writer you’ll definitely want to catch a couple of panels — it’s cool to hear how the biggest names in YA lit got to where they are now. And you’ll definitely want to catch the YA Smackdown, which pits teams of authors against each other in zany games and is always a highlight of the day. —Elizabeth Pandolfi
