Got a boat?

I'm still fairly new to the Lowcountry, but I've heard that the Parade of Boats is a pretty big deal. On Dec. 1, boats from all over Charleston will get decked out in their holiday finery and strut their stuff from the harbor, up by Patriot's Point, in front of the Ravenel Bridge, then continuing by the Battery. The procession will end in fireworks over the harbor. Magical. If you've got a boat and you'd like to take part in the procession, now's the time to get signed up. Not only is it a fun event, but you'll have a chance at winning cash depending on how impressive your boat looks. The entrance fee for recreational boats is $25, and commercial boats $50. For information and entrance forms call Ray Swagerty (843-724-7414) or e-mail swagerty@cicharleston.sc.us. The event is co-hosted by the United States Power Squadron and The Office of Cultural Affairs. Information on the parade will be covered at a Captain's meeting on Nov. 28, 6 p.m. at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park.
