Wednesday night we headed to 341 King Street to celebrate the opening of Cynthia Rowley's new Charleston shop. It's the designer's first store in the south, and her fifth in the U.S. Girls teetered in high heels and the few men there looked dapper as they browsed the racks and indulged in champagne, caramel popcorn, and sweet tea vodka. Of course, everyone wanted to be close to the famous designer, chatting, snapping pictures, or just admiring from afar. Most of the clothes were under $300, and there were plenty of cute party dresses with detailing like little cut-outs and fun, luxurious fabrics. The accessories were my favorite, with adorable touches like little teddy bear faces and horsey (I think) cut-outs. The store's opening is just another example of Lower King street's trend toward the upscale (see: Juicy, Louis Vuitton) despite the shaky economy. Suggesting that a lot of Charlestonians aren't hurting one bit.
