This Saturday there's plenty to do with the fam, and bonus: most of it's free, or close to it. The first stop of the morning: Marion Square for The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center's annual child safety and abuse prevention event. Kids' activities include hands-on butterfly art projects, face painting, and even a bubble machine. And what kid doesn't love a bubble machine? The Charleston Fire Department will be giving all the little firefighters out there tours of their truck, and of course fire safety tips. The police department will be in the park to fingerprint children. The free family fun starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon.

If the kids aren't worn out yet, hop on over to the YMCA on Cannon Street for YMCA Healthy Kids Day, featuring activities that promote healthy kids and information on their programs. It'll have your kids singing "It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A," hand gestures and all. Feel free to stop them after about the seventh chorus. The event lasts from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

If neither of those interest your little ones, then maybe the Fam Jam at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry will get them excited (what kid doesn't get excited when they hear they are visiting a play castle?). Besides the usual Children's Museum attractions, there will be balloon slingshots, grocery cart races, a giant firetruck slide, and an inflatable obstacle course. Roark Ferguson of the Animal Planet and his reptile safari will be providing entertainment. And all of that costs just $5 for members and $7 for non-members. The Fam Jam lasts from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. —Candice Summers
