Warning: this is not a laze-around, catch-up-on-chores kind of weekend. There are enough events going on in town to please every palate, and here are our top picks.
Everyone is buzzing about Kulture Klash on Saturday, which is sure to be the hugest installment of the hip art event yet. If you're just looking to get a buzz with good beer, head to Gene's Beerfest on Sunday. You might also want to preface that with the Recovery Room's one-year anniversary bash on Saturday night. O'Malley's Karma for Kamra fund-raiser looks good as well, featuring a beer pong competition and some cool bands like Manic Motion and Chronicles of the Land Squid.
If want to just sit on your butt and watch something, head to Marion Square tonight for a free screening of Twilight. Or check out the one-night-only performance of Broadway Bitches at South of Broadway Theatre. We've heard it's hilarious. The Producers, The Twilight Zone, and The Seagull are all playing as well.
Sporty types should stay busy this weekend. Besides the races taking place on Saturday, there are several spectator sports to check out as well. The Family Circle Cup continues through Sunday, the Charleston Battery host their season opener Saturday, and the Charleston Race Week regatta dominates the harbor through Sunday.
Like festivals? Folly Beach's Sea & Sand Festival is Saturday, featuring arts and crafts, food, and classic beach music. Boone Hall's Strawberry Festival is all weekend long, with rides, games, and of course plenty of ripe strawberries. On Sunday, the Grits Festival out at Bowens Island celebrates grits with music from the Coppertones. And don't forget the Canoe & Kayak Festival for all you paddling fans.
Fashionistas, head to the Francis Marion Hotel on Saturday for champagne, cupcakes, and plenty of advice on getting married in Charleston. On Sunday, head to Chai's for the Cirque de Couture Local Color Fashion Show featuring the stars of the local fashion scene.
