The city’s Office of Cultural Affairs finally released the MOJA schedule last week, and it’s full of several familiar acts and a few surprises. The annual festival celebrates African-American and Caribbean arts with a range of events spanning Sept. 29-Oct. 9.

Operations and Public Relations Coordinator Laura Thompson shared some highlights, including the return of Eleganza, the classical vocal duo starring Cheryse McLeod Lewis and Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. They sold out shows during this summer’s Piccolo Spoleto, and they’re expected to sell out during MOJA. Philadelphia-based dance company Philadanco is bringing a modern spin to the dance program, and jazz artist Najee will present an evening under the stars at Porter-Gaud’s stadium. This year’s opening ceremonies and reggae block dance will be held at Brittlebank Park instead of the Customs House.

In addition, expect to see the return of standard events like Heritage Day, the Palmetto Invitational Band Classic, and the MOJA Finale at Hampton Park.
